Why usable supply matters more than tonnes
AL Circle spoke with Rafael Suchan, CEO and co-founder of Metycle, about some of the questions shaping the secondary aluminium market, from global scrap sourcing and changing demand patterns to alloy recovery, quality assurance and cross-border trade.
His central point is practical: supply security is not about tonnes alone. For industrial buyers, the material has to fit the production plan. Chemistry, consistency and a clear understanding of what will arrive matter as much as availability.
In the interview, Rafael explains why Metycle starts with the customer’s specification and works backwards through sourcing, sorting, testing and delivery.
From scrap to specified feedstock
Rafael also discusses how LIBS can help preserve alloy identity before melting, why recovery and throughput matter alongside quality, and how batch-level records can reduce uncertainty in international trade.
The result is a different way to think about secondary aluminium: not simply as scrap to be traded, but as industrial feedstock that has to be qualified, specified and reliably delivered.
That is the model Metycle is building by connecting global sourcing, regional processing, material knowledge and financing.
